Professor Mohammad Nasir (2016)

Professor Mohammad Nasir is currently the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education in the Republic of Indonesia. He has held this position since October 2014.

Minister Mohammad Nasir has been entrusted to head the integration of the Ministry of Research and Technology (Ristek) and the Directorate of Higher Education (Dikti), which was considered a significant task for the national commitment in implementing a paradigm shifting in teaching and research universities. The unification is expected to end the overlapping research activities in Universities and Research Agencies, and to escalate research activities into innovation; and change universities from ‘teaching-universities’ and ‘research-universities’ into ‘innovation Universities’.

Professor Nasir has been actively involved in the academic activities at the University of Diponegoro (UNDIP). He was the Vice Rector of UNDIP in 2006 – 2010 and was about to be inaugurated as the Rector of the University in December 2014, before being appointed to be the Minister. The other positions he has held at the university are Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Head of Accounting in the Faculty of Economics.

Amongst his other positions and consultancies outside the university, he was a Revitalization Team Member of Enterprises in Central Java; Member of the Asset Valuation Team of the Central Java Province; Finance Manager at PT. Ika Chirza Son, Pekalongan; Partner at Delta Consulting, Semarang; and a team member responsible for Asset Valuation and Financial Accounting of Semarang City.

Professor Mohammad Nasir hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of Diponegoro (UNDIP); a Master of Science (M.Si) from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and a PhD in Accounting from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).  He is an accountant Registered with the Ministry of Finance (Ak).

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants is honoured to induct Professor Mohammad Nasir to the Global Accounting Hall of Fame® for his services to the profession in Indonesia.
