The Institute of Certified Management Accountants has established a Global Accounting Hall of Fame® and a Global Management Accounting Hall of Fame ® to ensure that accounting academics and practitioners globally were given the recognition they deserve.
While selection to the Hall of Fame is intended to honour the people so chosen, it is also intended to be a recognition of distinguished service contributions to the progress of accounting and management accounting in its broadest sense. Management accounting has evolved over the years from costing, to providing decision information such as for pricing, to strategy implementation. Now it has gone beyond this to consider the impact of a company’s decisions on the environment, society, and governance, known today as ESG.
Management accountants must now go beyond just profit and shareholder value and consider societal objectives. Companies must not only be legal and ethical but must be aware of the social justice implications of their actions.
Evidence of distinguished service includes contributions to accounting research and literature, significant service to professional accounting organisations, wide recognition as an authority in the fields of financial accounting, management accounting and auditing; advancement of accounting education, and public service. A potential inductee must have reached a position of eminence from which the nature of his or her contributions may be judged by their peers in the Region.
