Professor Bambang Brodjonegoro is currently the Minister of National Development Planning of Indonesia. The previous positions he held in the Cabinet were as Minister of Finance and as Vice Minister of Finance II.
Professor Brodjonegoro has a distinguished record of service and achievement both at home and on the international scene; and both inside and outside the academic community. As an academic, his career began as a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. He was soon appointed as Chairman of the Department of Economics, and then Dean of the Faculty of Economics at that university. His expertise and breadth of experience in the economic sector, particularly with regard to regional decentralization, resulted in Professor Brodjonegoro being invited as a guest lecturer or professor to many universities at home and abroad. He served as a distinguished guest lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA; and as Director General Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank.
Outside the academic world, Professor Brodjonegoro is also known for his expertise in capital markets and in development economics, particularly in urban areas. In 2013, Professor Brodjonegoro served as the Vice Minister of Finance II, while simultaneously serving as the Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia. He was inaugurated as the Minister of Finance in 2014.
Professor Brodjonegoro holds a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Economic Development and Regional Economy from Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia; and a Master degree and PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA.
